SAILING SEASON.

CHRISTCHURCH "CLUB'S OPENING. ■Under pleasant conditions, the Chvistohurch Sailing and Power Boat Clu.opened the season at MoncVs Bay on Saturday afternoon in the presence of a laige attendance of sailing enthusiasts and the public. The nor'-wester, wh.cl was Wowing enabled the sailing craft to give a good display, and at the aame time was not strong enough to raise a sea so rough as to interfere with the oower-boat events. In addition the temperature, was so mild as to enable the competitors to wear flannels arid ducks In comfort and .the ladies light summer frock!. Among those present were the Mayor ot Christchuvch (Mr J. K. Archer) ana Mrs Archer, the Mayor of Sumner (Mr W. «• Nicholson) and Mrs Nicholson, and the club commodore ' (Mr J. D. MoCaM). In,tho unavoidable absence of the president- (Lt.-Oolonel H. S. E. Hobday), the season was declared open by the Mayor of Christchurch, who congratulated ouo ot the club members (Mr G. G. Andrews) on Ins achievement in winning 'the Sanders uip for two years in euccession and expressed the hope that the club would hold ths trophy for a further period. Mr Archer trusted that the season would be a prosperous one. Cheers were given for Mr Andrews, when : the Sanders Cup was exhibited, and ap-. plause. greeted the announcement that a i handsome troohy, which was also «hihited, j had been presented by * club member (Mr A F.
