SECOND SERIES OF MATCHES. RICCARTOX'S BATTING FAILURE
1 Beautiful wealhtr was experienced for the commencement of the eer-nul round of gisde matches on Saturday. The wickets were m capital order, and at Haglcy Park, where three of the championship matches were played, there was a big attendance. Thus early in tho season there is abundant evidence that the success of the New Zealand team in England has given a great stimulus ' to the game in Christchurch. There were two notable reversals of form on Saturuaj. Riccarton, who had put up the big total_ ot 419 for seven wickets against West ( -' hr, £ l ' church in the first round, were outed, by •■ t. i Albans for 118. and Wost Christchurch, who had totalled 175 and 4 9 in the previous round, put up the good total of -' 3 against I Linwood. j j Riccarton v. St. Aibans. Riccarton made a disastrous start, their first two batsmen, Gorrie and Roberts, both failing to score. Wickets fell quickly until seven were down for SO. Then .Beuth and. Gibbs made the best stand of the innings, puttiiiK on 34. St. Albans started almost as badlv as Riccarton had done, but a.ter three wickets had fallen for 13, Nome and Coffey made a tine stand, taking the total to 300 before Norrie was disposed of. No fewer than four sixes were included in his total. North kept up the good work, which enabled St. Albans to get a fair first innings lead. •Scores:— RICCARTON. First Innings. O. T.
