TOO MUCH REGULATION.
EDUCATION BOARD PROTESTS. That there was too much being done from Wellington by regulation in education, matters was suggested at the- monthly meeting of the Canter-, bury Education Board yesterday, and on the motion of tho chairman (Mr C. S. Thompson) it was agreed to convene a conference of members of Education Boards with tho object of regaining the powers alleged to have been filched from them. When the subject was brought up, Mr Thompson declared in favour of a conference of all Boards. He pointed out 'that tho Otago Board was dissatisfied with the action of the Education Department in trying to get more done by regulation.»' The longer we git tight the harder it will be to get things done," he added, "and 1 think a conference should be held.. I move that other Boards be written to in the matter." Mr E. H. Andrews, who seconded the motion, after suggesting that the secretary of the Education Boards' Association be written to,- said it seemed that nothing could be _done without the sanction of tho Minister. Mr G. ,W. Armitage: Conferences have -been held. If we don't get the sanction the Minister will not grant the expenses. • , Mr R.
