CHANGE OF PLANS?
»_.— RANGIORA SCHOOL. _An accusation that the Canterbury I Education Board was showing weakness was made by Mr E. .11. Andrews at a meeting of the Canterbury Education Board yesterday, when a clause in the Buildings Committee's report cameup for consideration. The clause was as follows: The Rangiora School Committee forwarded for the information of the Board tho following copy of a resolution passed at a meeting of householders held in the Town Hall, Rangiora, on September 26th. and sent + o tho Director for Education:—"That tins meeting of the parents of the Borough School. Rangiora, urgently requests the Minister for Education to rebuild the whole of the school at once on the open bungalow class-room system. It was decided to forward to the Department an amended plan for the replacement of the school on the openair principle and to stato that _ the. original proposals had been submitted at tho instance of the Committee, who had been given an opportupnity of selecting the type of school desired when tlie rebuilding of tho school was first considered. Mr Andrews deplored tho delay which must arise, and said the Board was showing weakness in submitting another plan to Wellington. Mr W. Johnson also said that the Board was not putting in enough bark-, bone. Tho Board should emphasise that Rangiora wanted a new building, but tho Board ought to show that the plans approved three or four months ago were those selected. Mr W". A. Banks said ho hoped that it would not go abroad that the Board was opposed to open-air schools. Mr O, S. Thompson (chairman) said that tho Rangiora committee was solely to blame. The members of it had endorsed the Board's opinion, and, in fact, endorsed their own. He thought that the delay of a month would be tho best thing. It would give the cominftteo a chance to change its mind if it wished.
