METHODIST SUNDAY SCHOOL.
The forty-ninth anniversary of the Sydenham Methodist Sunday School was celebrated last Sunday, the church being prettily decorated for tho occasion. The preachers were: Morning, Rev. W. Slade; afternoon, Rev. IV. . Greenslade; evening, Rev. H. J. Odell. Special hymns were sung by the children, assisted by tho choir and an orchestra under tho baton of Mr G. B. Rawlinson. Mr Lawrence Riekard presided at the .organ. At the morning and evening services the Scripture lesson, Isaiah 55, was recited by Miss Hazel McCaughern. In the evening the church was filled to overflowing, the singing (which was broadcast) being very fine. Two very well-known hymns ("Tell Me the Old, Old Story," and "All Hail the Power") were sung by tho congregation and children. Mr Chapman, Sunday school superintendent, made an appeal for teachers, and also spoke of the work that was being done in the school. An organ solo, "Festal March in D Major" (Roberts), was played by Mr Riekard. The Rev. H. J. Odell preached from Joshu3, 24, verse 4. The services were concluded on Wednesday, when a very good programme was given in the schoolroom. The first part of the programme was a cantata, "Soot and the Fairies," the parts Queen Lily and Captain Soot being taken by Winnie ...Parker and Jack Scotland respectively.
