DANGEROUS DITCH IN THE PARK.

TO THE EDITOR Off THE TEISS. tiir,—Life has its pitfalls for the unwary, and the truth of this maxim was forcibly brought home to me, while cycling through South Hagley Park this afternoon. I was on my way to a cricket match at the Boys' League grounds, and entered the park b- the main entrance from Iliccarton road, taking the path to the left, leading to the Boys' League grounds. The next thing I was aware of was a violent hump and then —oblivion. _ "When I regained my senses, I was lying on the flat on my face on the path. I soon discovered that I had suffered severe abrasions to my face, and that my nose had been pub somewhat out of shape. My bicycle was damaged to the extent of £4. The cause of my fall was a ditch, some eighteen inches in depth, which runs directly across the path, thus proving a trap for unwary cyclists and pedestrians. A witness to my misfortune informed me that no fewer than four persons had suffered injury at this same ditch within the last week or so, one young man having to be removed to the hospital suffering from concussion and facial injuries. Hoping this letter will draw the attention of those responsible to this menace to public safetv. —Yours, etc., K.R.H. January 20th.
