Owing to a dispute Between the firemen and the cooks and stewards, the Union Steam Ship Company's intercolonial passenger steamer Maheno, which was to have left Wellington at 4 p.m. to-day, for JLiyttelton, Dunedm, Bluff, and Melbourne, is now to leave Wellington at nooiji to-morrow. ■ Shortly before the vessel was to sail to-day, the firemen intimated that they refused to sail if the ship's cook remained on board, as they were not satisfied with his {looking. The stewards anjl cooks then st%££d that if the cook jn question was put off, they would refuse to sail, and neither party backing down, a deadlock was reached. The officers of bjoth unions intervened and tried to settle the dispute, but their efforts were without success. As it seems unlikely that the dispute will end to-night, the vessel's departure is accordingly postponed until noon to-morrow, by which time the company's, officiate hope ta reaoh a settlement.
