NEW CHAIRMAN.
LINCOLN COLLEGE BOARD
DR, CHILTON ELECTED
Dr. Chas Chilton, rector of Canterbury College, was elected chairman of the Board of Governors of the Canterbury Agricultural College, at the first meeting of the new Board yesterday. Mr 11. A. Knight was chairman of the board tor some years past, but at a recent election for a representative on the board he and Mr Geo. Murray (South Canterbury) polled nn equal number of votes. The returning officer gave his casting vote in favour or Mr Murray, necessitating the appointment of a chairman. There were present:—Dr. Uulton and Messrs R. W. Lochhead the Hon. D. Buddo, M.L.C., Geo Murray, N. M Orbell John Studholme, John Deans, and R E, Alexander (principal of the College) When the question of tho election of a chairman was considered, Mr Studholme proposed Dr. Chilton, and Mr Orbell seconded. Mr Buddo proposed Mr John Deans,, and Mr Lochhead seconded. Dr. Chilton said he was not seeking the position, and if it were the wish of the Board he would retire. Mr Buddo said that if Dr. Chilton were elected he would have the speaker's strongest support. Mr Studholme said that if Sir Deans were elected chairman, the speaker would give him the utmost support. Eventually Dr. Ghilton was elected chairman. On the motion of Mr Orbell, it was decided to convey to Mr H. A. Knight, the late chairman of the Board, the Board's appreciation of his services to the college. Mr Kiight was the first pupil of the college, and members spoke in high praihe of the work he had done for the institution. Itwas resolved'tq ask Mr Knight to continue his services on the committee to confer with the Government regarding the status of the college.
