THEFTS AND BURGLARIES

AUCKLAND, January 10.
Extensive thefts from shops and private houses during the Christmas'holidays were- admitted in the Police Court by eight youths, all under 21 years of age. Ten charges, in each of which all tho accused were not named, involved goods and jewellery valued at £203 9s (id. The operations extended from Point Chevalier to Mountain road.
Evidence concerning thefts was given by numerous witnesses, who stated that entrance in almost every case had been gained by breaking windows during the absence.of the owners. B. E. Arnott said his residence at Point Chevalier was completely ransacked on Christmas Eve, the contents of every room being thrown about. ] n statements made to the police, and produced in Court, accused admitted the various offences. It was stated in connexion with the theft of hooks from a shop in the Great North road, that a key was used to open a showcase facing the footpath. The. accused were committed to the Supreme Court for sentence, bail being fixed at £SO in each case.
