CHARLTON'S WONDERFUL SWIM. (BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION— COPYRIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received January 9th, 5.5 ii.ni.) SYDNEY, January 8. The State Swimming Championships were decided in fine but dull weather , before a record attendance. The results wore:— ICO yards' championship—Henry 1, Kirklahd 2, Doyle 3. The race was won on the touch m 56 3-osec. 680 yards' championship—Charlton 1, Takaishi 2, Kelly 3. Both Charlton and Takaishi got a poor start, but speedily passed the other three competitors. The Japanese touched first at 110 yards, slightly ahead of Charlton, and at 220 yards was a foot ahead. At 330 yards ho was again the first to touch, and the race continued neck and neck till 440 yards had beon covered, when Charlton drew away, and, swimming strongly, won by 66 yards in 10 minutes S2 seconds, a world's record, lowering the former world's record by 5 2-5 seconds.
