The Auck'.and lawn tennis championships were concluded to-day. Results: Men's singles—E. L. Bartlcet beat A W. Sims, 6-3, 6-4, 7-5. . Ladies' singles-Miss M. Speirs boat Miss B. Knight, 7-5, 1-6. 6-3. Men's doubles-E. L. Bartleet and H. L. Robson beat 11. Brinsden and h. W. Griffith's, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. , Combined doubles-A. W. Sims and Miss Knight beat H. BrinSden aud Mrs ScottWatson, 6-4, 6-3. In the men's singles ftnai both players stayed at the back of the court for the first two • sets, during which Bartleet was always a shade superior. Both drove with vigour and placed prettily, but Bartleet 1 was the wore accurate of the pair. Sims advanced to the net in the third set and gained a slight lead in the early stages, but could not capture' Bartleet's s erTlOC - Bartlcet also cams into the net in the third set and a hard-fought match ended in his favour. * Misses Speirs and Kniglit fought out a thrilling final, although errors were very frequent. After being three games . behind in the first set, Miss Knight made a,- fine recovery and pushed the Canterbury player to advantage before the latter won. Miss Knight, driving splendidly and smashing vigorously, captured the second set with the loss of only one game. Miss Speirs gained a load of 5-1 in the third set, when Miss Knight made another effort, taking the next two games, but Mjbs Speirs won the next and the match. Bartleet and Robson had. a comfortable win against Briusden and Griffiths in the men's doubles final. The play was disappointing, .the loser 3 being more erratic than usual. Bartleet and Robson were superior in serving and also killed many ot the lobs tossed up by their opponents. WANGANUI TEAM AGAINST N.S.W. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WANGANUI, January 9. The following team will represent the Wanganui Tennis Association against New South Wales hero to-morrow: —S. Powdrell (captain), A. Wheeler, M. Lampe, N. B. Barkraan, J. E. Marshall, J. Powdrell, and P. H. Jones (seventh man). The prospects of the local team are good if the weather remains fine. Conditions are threatening tonight. TARANAKI TOURNEY. (r-KESB ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) NEW PLYMOUTH, January 9. The Taranaki lawn tennis championships were concluded yesterday in ideal weather. Members of the New South Wales' touring team were prominent amongst the finalists, and played splendid tennis. Dr. North was not up to his. usual form in the final, the chief factor contributing to his defeat being the remarkable recoveries of fiaege. who secured almost impossible returns with surprising consistency. In the men's doubles Peach brothers were too strong in overhead work at the net for Lampe and France, though the latter were little inferior in other respects. The final of the doubles provided thrilling tennis. Peach brothers losing the last of fivo sets 13-11 after being match point early in the set. The final matches of the tournament resulted:— Men's Singles—Semi-final: Haege (Victoria) defeated Malfroy (Wellington), 6-3, 6-2. Final: Haege defeated Dr. North (New South Wales), 6-4, 2 r 6, 6-1, 6-3.

Ladies' Singles—Final: Miss Watson (New South Wales) defeated Miss Lloyd (New South Wales) G-4, 6-4. Boys' Singles—Final: Drew (Dunedin) defeated Ewart (New Plymouth), 6-1, 6-5. Girls' Singles—Final: Miss M. Nutting (Inglewood) defeated Miss. Gayton (New Plymouth), 6-4, 6-2. Men's Doubles—Semi-final: N. Peach and P. Peach. (New South Wales) defeated Lampe (Wangauui) and France (Wellington). 6-1, 9-7. Final: McCausland and Dr. North (New South Wale 3) defeated F. and N. Peach, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3, 8-6, 13-11. Ladies' Doubles—Semi-finals:-Misses Lloyd and Watson (New South Wales) defeated Mrs Smith (Wanganui) and Miss Malcolm (New Plymouth), 64, 6-1; Mrs Allison and Miss Bundle (New Plymouth) defeated Mrs Marshall (Wellington) and Miss Cameron (Maaterton), 5-6, 6-3, 7-5. Final: Misseß Lloyd and Watson defeated Miss Bundle and Mrs Allison, 6-3, 6-1. Combined Doubles—Fourth round: N. The opening day of the Palmerston North tennis tourney was devoted to preliminaries only. The more noted players were detained at "the Auckland and New Plymouth tourneys, but are due here on Monday.
