PENNANT MATCHES. UNITED WINS FIRST ROUND. Six pennant games postponed from November 20th were played on the various Christchurch greens on Saturday afternoon, under ideal bowling conditions, and with the surface playing fast in several cases. TO START TO-DAY. [THE PRESS Special Service.] AUCKLAND, January 8. The fourteenth annual champion tourna- J mont of the New Zealand Bowling Association is to commence on Monday, and will bo continued throughout the week. There are 680 competitors, of whom about half are visitors, representing all partß of the Dominion, and there are also some representatives from New South Wales and Victoria. Eighteen of the local greens have been requistioned, and special care haß been_ taken to have these in tournament condition. Although the frequent heavy rains of the past few weeks have made the work of preparation exceedingly difficult,, the majority of the lawns are playing accurately. South Australian Team. In regard to tne proposed visit of the South Australian' bowlers to New Zealand next March,. the secretary of the Dominion Bowling Association (Mr A. R. Coltman) has received advice that the trip has been postponed for twelve months. j
