N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS.
CANTERBURY COMPETITIONS,.
No swimmer has made so pronounced improvement in the past season or so as has D. P. Lindsay, and Canterbury will centre much of its liope on him at the Dominion championships. On .Thursday evening ho covered 880 yds in the New Zoaland record time of llmin 54 3-sssc, a performance., -which is faster by 4 "irSseo than, the mark set by A. Baird, of Auckland, 1 last', season.' • •
Lindsay will swim in the. free-styb distance at the championships ranging from 100 yds to one mile, and next Thursday even-' ing, at tho Tepid Baths, ho will swim in the 880 yds Canterbury championship.
Canterbury will also have . several other fine performers who should win * honours. Mrs M. Thompson', who, a*sMiss Foote,-of Otago, 'won- thewomen's diving championship, is now a Canterbury resident, and will compcto at Auckland.
Miss M. Broward could duobtless vfn tho 220 yds women's Dominion breaststroko ovent, but she is 16 years of age, and intends to remain in the intermediate division, whero she should defeat the opposition. C. Herd, the Dominion record-holder for 220 yds and 220 metres ; breast-stroke, will compete for Canterbury in tho 220 yds breast-stroke aDd 150 yds back-stroke, and is in fine form. Ho represented tho Dominion at the last Olympic Games.
A. Stokes will Bwim in 440 yds, 880 yds, and tho mile free-style events.
