FLOWER SHOW.
TAI TAPU'S DISPLAY
OPENED BY SIR lIEATON RHODES
A large crowd was present at the Tai Tapu Hall yesterday on the occasion of the district's annual flower show. Despito tho unfavourable weather which has prevailed during the present season an attractive display of blooms was presented and also a good array of fruit and vegetables. -Mr T. 0. Morgan, chairman, in his opening remarks expressed appreciation ot the largo attendance, saying that this was particularly satisfactory in view of the fact that this year-tho funds were in aid of a very deserving cause—tho local school. He also thanked the judges' for tho conscientious manner in which they had carried out their duties. . Sir R. Heaton Rhodes, who officially opened the show, said that it gave him great pleasure to carry out this duty. He considered that a flower show was a. particularly good method of raising funds for the school. It was always creditable when residents of a district united in efforts towards the success of the school. He commented on- tho recent adverse weather conditions which had militated against a really tine display of flowers, fruit and vegetables, and congratulated the winners on their success, expressing the hope that those who were unsuccessful would next time redouble their efforts to achieve a place on the prize-list. He also hoped that tlio proceeds would I>© large enough to bo : of considerable benefit to the school.-
Mr J. Nairn, one of the judges, also spoke.
