NOT SO POPULAR.
CROSS-WORD PUZZLES. [.THE PREBS Special Service.) AUCKLAND, January 6. The cross-word puzzle was not so
popular last year as in JPl\", judging by the annual statistics of the Auckland Citv libraries issued to-day.
The figures show that 113.717 volumes were used during the year iu the reference department of the central library, compared with U",510 in the previous year, and this decrease is accounted for by the fact that in IDIM abnormal use was made of this department of the library by persons interested in crossword puzzle competitions.
