BURNSIDE MARKET.
(press association tbleobam.) DUNEDIN, May 12. Generally speaking, prices for fat stock were somewhat higher at the Burnside sale to-day.
Fat cattle—There v was a yarding of 285 head of good average quality,' with some extra choice cattle from the south. The proportion of cows was fairly large, as was also the number of light, plain eteers. The sale opened fit prices a little -ahead of Last week's, and a further improvement to the extent of a few shillings followed. Prime handy-weight bullocks sold at from 40s to 42s 6d per 1001b, prime heavy-weights and medium quality to 37s 6d, light-weights and unfinished to 355, extra prime heifers to 35«, cows and light heifers 20s to 30s. Prices were:—Medium-weight bullocks £l4 to £l6, others £l2 10s to £l3 ss, extra' prime heifera £ll 10s to £l4 15s, prime £8 5s to £lO 10s, prime cows £8 10s to £ll 10s, medium £5 15s to £6 10s.. ' ' '
Pat sheep—There was .an 'entry .of about 1500 head of good average quality, compared with 2597 last week. There were not a great many prime heavy wethers, and the supply of ewes was again fairly large. There were fairly regular prices throughout the Bale. The opening, though, wae rather easy, and it was later that a general improvement took place with a rise of Is 6d to 2a for wethers, and about Is for ewes. Prime handy-weight wethers brought from '6d to 6Jd, prime heavy-weight, wethers from 6|d, prime ewes to 5Jd, light and aged ewe's 4d to 41d per lb; extra prime heavy wethers made from 39s to 43b, prime 31s to 86s, lighter sorts 26s to 28s 6d, extra prime heavy ewes made from 27s 6d to 32s 6d, medium 21s to 245, lighter 16s to 19s. ' Fat lambs—There was an.entry of about 460 head, compared with 507 last week. The quality was medium to very fair, though none was extra heavy. Prices were very similar to those of last week, and lambs sold on a basis of 8d to 9d a pound. Store cattle—There were about 400 head of mixed Borts,' compared with 270 last sale. Among them were twenty or thirty head of well-bred steers. The prices generally were somewhat easier, and cows were considerably cheaper. Two and a half-year eteers made .from £7 to £8 10s, cows to Pigs—There were 156 fats and 56 slips. Prices for fat' pigs were good. Baconers sold at from 9d to 9Jd per pound, and porkers BJd to Bid. j
