At the conference of South Island Progress Leagues, held shortly after Easter, a motion submitted by tho representatives of the Canterbury League affirming the desirableness of setting up a South Island Members of Parliament Committee, somewhat on tho same lines as tho Canterbury Members of Parliament Committee, was agroed to. The object of the South Island Members of Parliament Committee is to look after matters concerning the South Island, and urge them upon the Government.
As stated in yesterday's issue of "The Press," the matter of arranging a meeting of the youth Island members to form the proposed committee was left in the hands of Mr X). G. Sullivan, M.P., the honorary secretary of the Canterbury Members Committee.
Mr Sullivan has informed the organiser for tho Canterbury League, that he has conferred with Mr T. K. Sidey, M.P., chairman of the Otago Members of Parliament Committee, and they have arranged for a meeting of South Island members next week, when the Main Trunk Kailway and other important matters will be discussed.
