LEVELS. (SPECIAL TO. "TDK F-ItESS.'') TIMAEU, July 1. At to-day's meeting cf the Levels County Council, a letter was received from the chairman of the District Highways Council (No. 13) regarding' converging traffic, stating that- the matter had been fully considered at a mooting of the District Council last week, and it was possible that tho contributions from cutsido counties would bo reinstated. In addition, they would Set ■ their contribution from the .Main Highways Eoard. ''ho Department of Internal Affairs advised that tho Commission -which f-ut and considered the petition for tho inclusion • of tho Redruth township in tho borough of Timarn had recommended its inclusion, and also that tho Levels County Council and Timaru. Borough Council should hear half costs. The "Waimato County Council forwarded the following resolution in reference to tho lower Pareora bridge: "That this Council strongly protests against the action of tho Main Highways Board in refusing to place the proposed Pareora. bridge on the same level as tho Selwyn propositi in the matter of subsidy, and asks that tho matter be referred back to tho Main Highways Board for further consideration, and that the ckair- • man and Crs. Drinnan and Elworthy be thia Council's representatives." Tho matter was held over till the visit of membsrs o{ tho Main Highways Board to tho d:sTli'c Department of Lands and Survoy (Christchurch) advised that Messrs Ken- and Brightling had advocated a light traffic bridge across tho To Ngawai at Cave, to givo access to their sections. Tho present stock bridge which was erected by tho Council was badly damaged by flood, and appeared beyond repair. The chairman (Cr. T. B. Garnck) said that if the Council found £350 towards tho co=t it was as much as it cou d do. It was decided to get an estimate of the cost and onako application, to the Government for a grant. Tho financial statement showed that casu received since last meoting amounted to £S33 3s Bd, leaving -a debit- balance at June. 30th of for payment amounted &o £1907 17s, making a, total debit balance of £5332 10s od.
