MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. The fortnightly meeting of the executive of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers' Associitipn wae held on Monday, the president, Mr H. J. Knight, being, in ythe : chair. A motion was passed congratulating Colonel Stewart, D.5.0., on his promotion to the rank of Colonclin; the territorial Forces. The secretary reported that subscriptions were coming in freely, a'total of 804 members having renewed 1 their subscriptions since April' Ist'. Five' new members were elected at the meeting'.' .-,.'.. • . Tho secretary roportert that the number of unemployed returned soldiers in the city was steadily increasing. ".Twenty-four. m>m had been employed by the City .Council under Mr J. Young, and were.paid with the grant, from the Poppv Dav funds, together with tho Council's subsidy." This money bad now been expended, and the men had,-been put off-, and were again on the" labour market. The sum of £IOO -had- been voted to the. Heashcetc Countv Councillor work \qn the Dyer's' Fa S3 road and £IOO, to the Public "Works Department for work'on the -Mt. Pleasant road, but these bodies were abt yet. ready to start Vork.
