COUNTY COUNCILS.

WAIMAIRI. A meeting of the Wainrairi County Council was held, yesterday, -when Mr J. Seymour presided. Thero were also present — Messrs E. "W. Hawke, W. ,T. Walter, G-. E. Curry, Cr- Shipley, W. P. Spencer, C. 13. Cross, 11. Paterson,. T. O. Newnham, and W. A. Nicholls. A deputation representing the Canterbury Committee- of the Dunedin Exhibition waited on tho Council. After tha deuptation had explained the lines on which it was suggested to establish the Canterbury court, it was decided to mane a grant of •£155 Is, the amount asked for by the deputation. .. The chrirnian .reported, in regard to the maintenance of the Haglty Park boundaries, a conference had' decided that the amount | of the claim under tho exit-ting warrant should be paid. . It had been decided that j tho Council slrjidd contribute i.O per cent, of the maintenance in future. ilr Hawko opposed the. proposal, on the grounds that the Council had nothing to do with th J West bolt, It was decided to hold tha matter over. The electrician reported' that rwenty-ono new consumers had been connected duiing the month, and thxt forty-six street lamps had been repla-ccd. Two applications had been made lor extension to lines in ordei that motors could bo -connected. The storm last ■■■ week had done very little damage. An odd pole or two iiad been brought down and a few. branches had been blown across tho lines, causing tho current to fail temporarily. It was decided to erect the necessary lines for the motors, provided the applicants pay half-cc-sl cf .each installation. Mr Spencer said that the necessity for a. light at tho'Chaney's railway etation had become urgent, and ho moved that a letter ho sent to the 'Department asking that a light bo installed. It was decided to bring the matter before tha Department. The foreman retjorted that Ills Rtccarton road had been patched, and screenings had been put *n thi south side from Wharervnj road to Church corner. Marshland roatl would bo attended to next week. An offer had been received of 15,000" two-year-old trees*, at £5 10s per thousand, and if an order was given for tha next- two years the price would be reduced hirtV.r. Shand wrote cemphuning. of the condition -of Koran street, isicca.rum, which, ho said, was badly overgrown with grass. Messrs J. J.
