RUGBY.

ASHBURTON SUB-UNION. The weekly meeting of the Ashburton County Rugby Sub-Union was held last evening. Present —Messrs H. J. Chapman (in the chair), L. Grieve, H. W. Beaumont, M. C. Segcrs, J. C. C. McLachlan, E. H. Loy, R. H. Biggar, A. Thomson, H. Sarney, A." A. Fooks, F. Prilchard, J. Smith, A. E. Clarke, M. Timmings and A. Lane.

The chairman welcomed Mr Lane, the vice-president elected in the place of Mr E. Partridge, who has left tho district. It was. reported that tho gate receipts for last Saturday totalled £2O Is 6d. At tho invitation of tho Malvern SubUnion, it was agreed to play a, representative match at Hororata next Saturday. The president (Mr W. F. Waiters) was appointed manager cf the local team..

The Kllesmero Sub-Union submitted tho names cf three referees eligible to control the Ashburton v. Ellcsmero representative match for the Southbridgo Shield, to be played r.t Southbridge on July 4th. Mr H. Conway was selected to referee the game. The Mackenzie Sub-Union wrote stating that it would send a eenior representative team to Ashburton on July 4th. The arrangements for accommodating the team were left to the secretary. The application of the Old Boys' Club for the reinstatement as a junior player of one of its members, who has been playing in the senior grade, was referred to the Classification Committee. The referee of the Hinds v. Melhvcn senior match last Saturday, Mr H. Porter, reported that he had ordered a Hinds player off the field for illegally charging a. ilethven player when the ball was at least 12 feet in tho sir. It was decided that the player's n?ime should be placed on the caution list.

POOR PROSPECT OF ALL BLACKS' MATCH. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TXLZGRAJI.) WELLINGTON, June 22. The effort to carry cut the proposal for a match between the 1924 and 1925 All Blacks is apparently not being attended with much success, arid with the information already to hand the prospect of a game taking place now seems remote. While a good set of backs are available, not many forwards of the 1924 combination have sent in their names for selection, the majority signifying that tbey will not be able to participate iii a match.

NORTH ISLAND TEAM. (PEJSSS ASSOCIATION IELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, June 22.

The following League football team has been selected to represent the North Island against the South Island at Auckland next Saturday:—Full-back, C. Dufty; threequarters, L. Brown, J.' Kirwan and P. Delgrosso; five-eighths, B. Laing and M. Wetheral!; half, Wilson-Hall; forwards, H. Herring. A. Townsend, E. J. Carroll, S. Dixon, B. Avery and N. Baas. Carroll, who belongs to Wellington, is the only player outside Auckland.

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. i

A meeting of the Executive of the Canterbury Football Association was held last evening. Present—Messrs H. English (in the chair), R. B. Bunt, R. "Walker, "W. Earnsay, E. Keech, A. Bassett, A. E. Sharman, W. Duncan, J. A. Robb, F. 0 Bentley, and Dr. Marks. Apologieß were received from Messrs W. Benson and P. Dairies.' The Uansier of A. Wilson from the Thistle Cluo to the .Nomads' Ulub was reierred to me Classification Committee. 'J.'he chairman eaid that the matter of transfers ihould be careiully considered, it was late in tho season tor players to be, changed from team to team. A copy of a letter sent to the New Zealand Ketert«3' Association by the Canterbury Referees' Assoc.ation was received, stating that unless examination papers for referee* wcro received within a tortnight, all nonbadge referees would resign. It was stated by the representative of the iC.it.A. that for two years no papers had been received from Wellington, and nonbadge referees, being desirous of qualifying, were prepared to resign as a mark of pretest. It was decided to send a letter to tho New Zealand Referees' Association asking for an explanation of tho matter, A letter was received from the Nomad? Club referring to the disgraceful condition of tho ground at Linwood Park last Saturday. Mr Bunt said that all he. knew of tie matter was that there was a marker at Linwood Park, and whitewash also, and the question of marking out he had left in the hands of a member of the Executive committee, who had' promised to attend to it. Mr J. P. Flood, secretary of the Nomads Club, gave details of the state of the ground. Hn said that in dry weather it was one of the best grounds which the Association had, but in wet weather it became very heavy, owing to its position and lack of efficient drainage. It was decided that the matter should be looked into.

The report of the meeting of the N.Z.F.A. wrs received. Wellington had entered ten teams in tho Chatham Cup competition, making a, total of eleven teams. The chairman drew attention to the fact that Mr E. Keech had taken up a. position on the Executive committee, and he extended to him a hearty welcome. Mr Robb reported that the first round of the Boys* Association competition was to close to-day. There had been good football played, and on no occasion h-.d thcro beer, any dirty i>lr.y. Mr Sharman referred to the poor quality of the footballs supplied to the schools in the Boys' Division. Mr Bunt said that the Association had alreadv been put to considerable expense v.ith the Bo?s' Division footballs, and those supplied we're the best procurable under the circumstances. *•' Mr McGinnis mentioned that the Sunnyside Club had taken up a subscription, and would buy two footballs which would be presented to certain schools for the uee> of the boys.

Mr Robb thanked Mr McGinnis,. a» representing Sunnyside Club, for the assistance -which, the club had always given to the committee, in charge of the Boys' Association. Mr Keech mentioned the fact that tean», ■when not playinp; at English Park, should bring their own lino flags with them, which they fr.iled to do it present. It was decided that in future the rule be strictlv enforced. The draw for next Saturday is as follows: Senior A Grade—Lyttelton v. Sunnyside, at Sunnvsidoj Rangers v.
