Polhill vice-cap-tain. Mrs Parker (president) and Miss It. -Genet, (captain). were elected - delegates to attend a meeting for the purpose of forming a . eub-as6ociation to play for a shield presented by Mr and Mrs T. 0. AMBERLEY. Tho monthly medal match, played on the links at Amberley on Saturday .last, was won by S. Frow with a scbro of 77 net. A very enjoyablo evening was spent in the Parish Hall at Amberley on Monday, when a euchre tournament and dance was held. The prizes for cards were won by Miss Manning and Mr L. O'Malley, whilst tho consolation prizes 1 were won by Mrs Qxley and Mr It. H. Harris. At the completion of the card j tournament supper was handed round and the hall was then cleared for dancing. During tho evening the opportunity was taken of saying farewell to Miss Greta Marsh, who is leaving the district. On behalf of those present the Rev. G. L. Harold presented Miss Marsh with a dress case as a token of respect and esteem. The recipient suitably responded. Music for the dance was played by Miss Rhodes, and an extra was played by Mr A. Burke. • A friendly football match was played at Amberley on'Saturdny last between the AVoodend and Amberley. junior teams and resulted in a win for the latter by 8 points to 4. Mr S. D. Bovce was referee.
WOODEND. A Purple Degree meeting of Manchester Unity Oddfellows was held in the lodge-room. There was an attendance of .twenty-ono members, and the Deputy-District Grand Master, livo. H. Dickhoff presided. The Purple Degree was conferred by the officers on the following brethren:—Bros.. W. A. Horrell (tfangiora Lodge), H. Pateman (Woodend Lodge),. and E. M. Howard (Ohoka Lodge). At a subsequent meeting of the Excelsior Lodge of Past Grands, Bro. J. A. Miles occupied the chair. Three members were initiated. Feeling reference was made to the death of P.P.G.M. Bro. Eli Scott, and a motion of sympathy with his widow and family passed, it was resolved to hold the next quarterly meeting at Ohoka in September.
LEESTON. The balance-sheet of a bazaar held last month for the primary object or financing the construction of new asphalt courts, was presented at a meeting of the Leeston Tenuis Club on Monday evening. The net proceeds were £i'3B 2s Id. The club is satisfied with the result, but this sum will not be sufficient to cover the whole scheme of court construction at present in view. A general meeting of the Bowling, Tennis, and Croquet Club has been called to consider the financial position. It is hoped to have the new courts ready for the opening of the season next spring.
