TRAMWAY MISHAPS.
DELAY IN SERVICE. The truth of tho adage referring to troubles and their coming together was impressed upon the Christchurch Trainway Board's officials last night in no uncertain manner, when a number of minor mishaps on the syßtem created some inconvenienco during tho rush hours.
Tho 4.43 p.m. tram from Riccarton, which was duo to arrive in the Square about 5 p.m., was derailed at the Ham road loop, and the 4.7 p.m. tram from Fendalton, duo in tho Square about 20 minutes later, had its trailer derailed in Bealey avenue. Iu this last case traffic on both the in and out linos was bloeked for a time, and the Fendalton and Opawa tlme-tablo were thrown out of gear. The 5.5 p.m. tram from Fendalton was late on account of some difficulty which developed in, connexion with the trolley-pole, and at 4 o'clock tho Opawa car collided with a . motor-lorry in Wordsworth street, Sydenham. In this last-mentioned case very little damage was done to either vehicle.
Referring to the mishaps last evening, Mr F. Thompson, General Manager o£ the Tramways, stated that such trouble was to be expected in wet weather, when the points wero covered with' water, and became silted up.
