LADIES' HOCKEY.
COMPETITION MATCHES. In tho ladies' hookey competitions on Saturday the last games in the first round of the seniors and the fourth series in (he juniors were played with the folio-wing results:— SENIOR GRADE. High School Old Girls 4, Hinds 2. High School 3, To Miharo 1. JUNIOR GRADE. Allcnton A 1, Allenton B 0. High School Old Girls v. Hinds. In spite of tho heavy rain which fell at Hinds, tho senior match played between the home team and High School Old Girla was witnessed by a fair orowd of epootatoro. From the bully-off Old Girk pressed bird, hut were unable to register a score. The Old Girls' forwards took the ball into the circlo, where Mies M. Bell regiatered the first 6core. Prom the bully the Hinds hacks were kept busy on tKe defensive, hut were unable to clear the circle before Miss 0. Bowdon netted the second goal for Old Girls. In tho second half Hinds were keeping opponents busy, and Beveral good combined efforts wero made by Hinda forwards, which resulted in their first score by Miss M. Fletcher. The game now became exciting, and aprain Hindß forwards were conspicuous, but tho Old Girls' backs proved equal to the occasion and turned tho defence ivtn an attack. Their forwards made a fine effort, which resulted in. Miss M. Bell netting the-third goal. , Takintr the ball from the bully, the Hinds forwards tossed it down the field to the circle, where 1 Miss S. Hamilton scovpc! the second poal for Hinds. Much midfield play followed, and in tho last two -minutes Old Girls scored «srnin. Hinck were without the services of Miss M. Fullon. Mr C; Bishop was referee. Hieh School v. Te Miharo. • The senior game between High Sohool and To Miharo on the Aishburton Domain grounds wae fast and willing throughout. Te Miharo attacked strongly from the initial bully and easily held the (advantage in the first half. They scored their first goal within a few minutes of the start. The visitors excelled in driving and their hitting was forceful. The play of the school team in the second half Was more like their usual scientific game. They dominated the. play practically all through the second spell and by superior combined play, proved the victors by netting three poals per medium of Mips B. MiliicTiamp. Miss B. Donaidebh scored for To Miharo. Messrs H. Ai Humphreys and M. Baker wero referees. Junior Match* .The junior game betweon Allenton A srid B lacked ecienoe, and was more or less .» tmsßle for possession of the ball. The girls did not attempt concerted effort*, bo essential in all games. Both teams : possess good material, and combination is the only thing lacking. Messrs H. A. Humphreys and M. Baker were referees.
