NORTH BEACH NOTES.
A meeting of the North Beach Gala Committee was held in tho Surf Pavilion, when 'Mr E. A. M. Leaver presided over a good attendance. The chairman read the financial statement, which showed the .total receipts from the 1924 gala to be £314, with expenses approximately £3O ,17s 9d. Of this amount £250 had been paid to tha Beach Improvement Society. The report was •adopted. On the motion of Mr Snell, it was decided to hold an official opening ceremony, on "the completion of the Memorial Hall, to be followed by the Crowning Ceremony, concert and dance. It was decided to engage the services of Mrs Hulmo to train the children. A sub-ctfmmittee, consisting of Mesdames Leverett,, Wilson, ''Uren, McGillivray, together with the chairman and the secretary, was set up to confer with Mrs Hulme. It was that Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P., and the Mayor .(Mr J. Gamble) be asked to" perform - the opening ceremony of the hall.
'The executive of th© Beach Improvement Society held a meeting in the Surf Pavilion, Mr E. A. M. Leaver presiding. On tlie motion of Mr Snell, it was decided to make arrangements for an active canvass to dispose of tho remaining debentures. In connexion ■ -with the approaching' completion 'of\! the Memorial Hall, the chairman reported that arrangements were under way regarding the installation of electric light. In tho matter of furnishing, samples and' prices were being obtained from Chriatchurch manufacturers. The Gas Company had.been approached and' arrangements' would be' made to have two periny-in-the-slot meters and gas rings installed in the public shelter, while in the hall a pumice copper and : gas ring .would be installed. With regard to the piano, it was agreed to hold the matter over for the present. On. the motion of Mr' Bush it was to accept the tender, of Mr Mr.cdonald for oiling the interior of the hall. The secretary reported that the annual meeting of -the society would be held' in the first week in July. At the Ozone Cafe a farewell social was tendered to Mrs Faubert, who for some years has been manageress of Messrs Sincoclc's shop in North Beach. A large gathering of friends assembled, to bid' Mrs Faubert farewell. Mr. T. Barker expressed tho. regret of the residents in losing Mrs Faubert from North Beach, and asked her to accept a travelling rug and cushion as a keopsaTte from her many friends. Mrs Faubert suitably responded. The evening was then rpent in a. social manner, with music and games. Mrs McGiUivxay was in change of the arrangements. i
