MAGISTERIAL. FRIDAY. (Before Mr Wyvern "Wilson, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. For the second time within six months, Hugh McLnch'.in, aged po tcsts, admitted » charge of drunkenness. He was convicted and fined 20s, in default 4S hours' imprisonment. IDLE AND DISORDERLY. "Yes, that's just the position. I am in," said Charles Fmzer, a labourer, aged -16 years, when charged with being an idle End disorderly person in that he had no means of support. On tlis application o£ Senior-Sergeant F. Levrin, who prosecuted, accused was refor a wce.-c. BY-LAW CASES. John Patterson vrns convicted and fined 103 for having driven a motor-car without u certificate of ability. For having left motor-cars unattended in streets, the following "were each convicted an l fined ss:—R. Ballantyne, J. G. S. Hoimes, Leslie J. Homersham, Maurice A. Johnston, J. "W. Keikir, William Machin, iun., and R. S. Taylor. Charles Thome,.H. Price, D. 0. Silvester, George Palmer and H. F. Coull wcro each convicted and fined 20s for having cycled at night without lights. James Dalling was convicted and fined 5s for a similar effance. Fred. Carter ivas convicted and ordered to pav costs for having cycled on a footpath. H. Mugford was convicted and ordered to pay costs for having allowed a cow to wander. "WITHDRAWN. Edmund Schahill, a middle-aged man, was clmged with assaulting John F. Monkmnn, a young man, who asked for sureties of the peace. A counter-charge of assault was laid against Monkman by Schahill. After the evidence in the first case had been heard, the char?" was withdrawn by leave of the Court. The other charge was then dismissed for want of prosecution.

PRISONERS SENTENCED. (press association telegram.) WELLINGTON, Jun- 12. "This class of offence seems to bo on the increase in this -part of the Dominion," eaid Mr Justice MacGregor in the Supreme Court to-day in sentencing fivo prisoners for breaking,- entering and theft. "It must be put a stop to."
Norman Evans was charged with breaking, entering and theft at Napier. The-Judge said that Evans did not appear to liavo criminal instincts. He admitted him to twelve months'' probation. William Smith, on charges of burglary at Carterton. i 3 awaiting trial on a charge of arson. He was ordered to appear for sentence. when called upon within twelve months.
Albert Winson was charged with breaking, entering and theft at Wellington. It was said that twelve of the last sixteen years of his life had been served in gaol. Ha was aged 27. Counsel said the' man had never had a chance. Wilson was sentenced to six months oil ench charge, to be concurrent. James William Young, 17J, and David William Fisher, 19, appeared on. Similar charges. The Crown Prosecutor said that the police considered that Fisher had the makings of a very bad criminal. The Judge decided to give Young another chance. lie was ordered to come up for sentence within twelve months.. Fisher was sentenced to six months' hard, labour. ' '
GAMING ACT BREACHES. (PEESS ASSOCIATION TELEGEAM.) WESTPOBT, June 12."" In the Magistrate's Ccrnrt to-da# a charge against Ralph (Hansby of being, the owner of premises used as a common gaming house was dismissed. F. Higgins; charged with being the occupier of; premises similarly' used, was fined £4O. Two men found on the premises wei'e each fined £2, and' a charge against another ' was dismissed. ;
