SCARLET FEVER ANTITOXIN.
A CHICAGO CLAIM. (ntoic ova own cobrhfohdmt.) SAN FKANOISCO, May 20. Science has taken one more gigantic stride, if the announcement be true, which has just been made by Dr. George F. Dick and Dr. Gladys Henry Dick of the John McCormick Institute for Infectious Diseases of Chicago. Tho claim made by the authorities is that scarlet' fever toxin has now been perfected to the point where it will absolutely make for immunity from the disease. For more than thirteen years doctors I have been working to defeat scarlet fever by means of a serum. Tho last important announcement made was that the fover germs can be isolated. Now it is stated in Chicago that complete immunity is possible by the' use of the toxin and! that tho reaction is less than that to diphtheria and typhoid inoculations. The tests-which Dr. Dick used to prove their theory was made on 205 nurjes. Not one developed the disease after inoculation.
