School Committee.' A meeting- of the school committee was held on Saturday evening. Present—Messrs I'adciiffe (chairman), ■ Ccgle, Johnston, Jackfon, Gable, McVinnie and Perkins. Tho headtcacher reported that the roll number was I*2l, with an average attendance of 110. It was decided to approve of Mies Beattio being. appointed infant mistress. It was tesoivcd io ask the Caledonian Society to supply the programme for a concert to bo helu on July 4th. The sports carnival to be held in the Domain on Labour Day was discussed, and it ■ was decided that a programme be drawn uj>. Obituary. There passed away laet week at his residence, Perry road, Ms J. W. a. figure well known to many Hcathcote people, and to those who visited the fruit orchard of Mrs Gimblett, Bridle Part road. The late Mr Turner started work on the property at the age of 14, under "the earployment o£ the late Mr Gimblett, and, with the exc«ption of a few years, remained thtno until the time of his death. All told, his iength. of service was 49 years. He was always bright, and will be miosed by the many who were wont to pay visitfl-'to the orchard.
