TOURISTS FOR SOUTH ISLAND.
PUBLICITY BOARD'S ATTITUDE.
Recently the organiser for the Canterbury Progress League .wrote to the New 'Zealand Publicity Board, drawing attention to the fact that there were numerous instances of tourists,; and parties of tourists, visiting the North island- but, not including the ; South Island in their itinerary. ' . If, as the Publicity Board [had stated in a letter to the League, it . desired the co-operation of - fne League, the Board should assure the League that the South Island was receiving its full share of Government publicity. A reply has been received frpm the Secretary of the Board, in which he states : "As regards the advertising of the South Is\arid I am directed to point out that the Board is fully alive to the desirability of encouraging oversea tourist' traffic to the South Island, as .such a course invariably lengthens tlie stay of the tourist in the Dominion. As regards enlarged photographs and cinematograph film it cap be safely stated that more than 50 per cent, of the material sent away depicts South Island scenes. The Tourist Department agents have reported that there has been a.n increase- in the booking of tours of the South Island by i oversea visitors.".
