COUNTY COUNCILS.

ASHLEY. Tho Ashley County Council met at Lobnrn on Thursday last. Present: Crs. Dawson, in the chair,' Barwell, Fitzgibbon, O'Halloran, and Philpott. > The chairman, Mr A. M. Tho clerk was instructed to request occupiers to lower the fences at certain road corners obstructing the view. Datu with respect to county war memorials were authorised to be obtained for tho office of the High Commissioner. Applications for grants we're authorised to bo made fbr the Makerikeri and Glehtui Forest bridges. The county's share of the cost of the Selwyh bridge was granted. Colonel Millton wrote stating that the deviation drain at the Washpool Creek .was, though otherwise very successful, starting a scour. He outlined a method of treatment which he would be prepared to carry ovit. Crs. O'Halloran and Philpott were asked to confer with Colonel Millton. Tho matter of the striking of the 1925-6 rates was considered, and postponed until next/ meeting. ' Mr A. Kennedy alone tendered for tho supply of oatsheaf chaff, and his price of £4 a ton was accepted. The clerk reported the need of the provision for foot traffib at Henry's ford, and it was left-with the chairman to look into the "requirements. After tho meeting members inspected the Okuku river above the bridge. Tho trend of the main stream against the east bank was no'ted, and certain protective works discussed and authorised.
