HOCKEY.

CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION. The sixth round of the Canterbury Association's competitions was played on Saturday Isst. Tho -weather was perfect, and tha grounds in good ord'r. Tho following table gives the points of tho senior teams:

SENIOR GRADE. Sydenliam v." TochnicaL Technical and Sydenham played a drawn game at, Lancaster Park, each side scoring two goals. Sydenham opened the attack, hut play soon returned to Sydenham's end, vhere off-side piny lost Tecbxical's chance ci scoring. James put. in a smart pioco of play for Sydenliam, but was stopped by Wear, Kill, Scott, and Teaguo participated in a, likely rush for Technical, but Snooks hit ov>»-. Holland and St. James headed a Sydenham attack which was intercepted by . Grafton. Technical held play in Sydenham's end for a, spell, and Snooks saved several good shots before Sydenham forced their way back to their opponents' circle, but, a twenty-five was the only result. A few minutes before half-time Technical broke away. Teague netted tho first goal. Half-time score: Technical 1, Sydenham 0. Alternate attacks marked tho opening stages of the 6econd spell. Gracie scored iCchnieaPs Eecond goal by a splendid solo effort which beat the Sydenham backs. A spoil of play in midfield followed, mostly in ■Sydenham's favour. Pascoe sent Sherriffs away, enabling the. latter to score for Sydenham. Sydenham had the better of tho game and Harvey made a- couple of splendid Pives. . Shortly before time Sydenham gained Technicals circle, where a scramble ensued, during which Teaguo, a 'Technical forward scored Sydenham's l socond goal and the game ended in a draw with two coals each. Referees, Messrs E. Gracio and D. Hogg.

'Varsity v. Sclwyn B. Sehvjn B had the better of the opening Play, and Umvin narrowly missed with a shot. 'Varsity lost a good opportunity cf scoring through failing 'to follow in after a free hit. Cameron put in a useful run for 'Varsity, but B. Hore nullified his effort. Sclwyn attacked, and from a corner Neal put behind, i'ord broke through on the left for 'Varsity, but his centre was not turned to account. Combined play by 'Varsity's forwards had play in Selwyn's twenty-five, off-jide play spoiling several oj. portimities. Then another 'Varsity rush saw Ford's speed enable hiui to take the ball in and open the score. Sclwyn now woke up and from a scramble iu the circle Unwin equalised Hie Genres. Half-time scores: 'Varsity 1, Sclwyn B 1. The second epell saw ' Holland narrowly miss the -Sclwyn. net with a. gocd shot. Another 'Varsity rush saw Holland put behind. Selwyn looked dangerous, when_ Neal, D Hore, und Unwin broke away, Newton bringing relief with a timely hit. A corner to Selwyn, and Hillgrove had an unsuccessful shot. S track was prominent for 'Varsity, but Crawford and H.oro were defending well. Unwin put in a fast shot for .Sclwyn, which hit the side post. Tb#n Ford missed a great chance for 'Varsity by •over-running the ball. Neal put in a useful run- for Selwyn, but play was transferred io the :>ther end, where Ford secured and outpacing the opposition put 'Varsity in the load. Play was now very fast, and Strack put 'Varsity farther in the lead. Selwyn gained a corner, but it was cleared. Time was then •called with the scores: 'Varsity 3, Selwyn B 1.

Selwyn A v. St. Albans. This game was played at St. Albans Park. Selwyn A attacked early, and Cummins, the St. Albans custodian, saved a good rising ■shot. Quartermain put in a good ran up the lino for St. Albans and centred well, but Selwyn cleared. Sclwyn gained ' the first corner, but St. Albans cleared easily. Combined work among the Selwyn. A forwards brought play to the St. Albans circle, where W. Bell secured, and, with practically only the goalkeeper to beat, looked like scoring a certain, goal. Vincent, for St. Albans, however, got there in time, and by clever defensive work blocked the shot. Half-time was called with Sclwyn A attacking, and with no goals scored. St. Albans-attacked early in the second -half, but Mahoney for Selwyn A cleared well. A good run by Mahoney ended in ; a ,corner. Selwyn A attacked strongly and Cummins effected a .brilliant save. From a 1 corner io St. Albans, Selwyn A took play right upfield to St. Albans goal, where Cummins again made a good save. Down, for Selwyn 'A, put in a run, St. Albans clearing with difficulty from the melee in front of their goal. Another good run by Down resulted' in W. Richmond scoring for Selwvn A fairly late in the second spell, St. Albans attacKed strongly, but the shot from a scramble in front of the goal went wide. St: Albans continued to press their opponents, but could not find the net. Timo was called with the score: Selwyn A 1; St. Albans .0. Referee, Mr H. Throp.

JUNIOR GRADE.

ASHBURTON LADIES' MATCHES

...TJte fourth series; of- games in the .Ash- - ladies' hockey competition was, played on Saturday afternoon. The Hinds v., To Miharo senior' match was a very willing and interesting one, and the teams wero evenly matched, notwithstanding that Hinds fielded only ten players. There was no ■score till just .before half-time, when Miss .T. Farrcil. after a fine combined effort, scored for Hinds. On resuming. To. Miharo •forced tlie play,"-and had Hind's bimy defending for some time, and. from a molee in the circle Miss M. Smith netted for Te Miharo. Keeping up a hard pressure, Miss . Smith /and Miss -B. Donaldson each scored goals m quick succession. . Near the end of the game Miss M. Fulton gained, possession- of- the ball, and. by a fine solo effort from about half-way, took the ball . riffht through and scored Hinds' second goal. Tho gamo ended: Te Miharo 3, Hinds 2.•" Mr Humphreys waß referee. In the High School v. Rakaia senior match, good play was witnessed, with tbo odd's in favour of High School, who registered their first goal within two minutes of starting. . School kept up a solid pressure, and eventually won by five goals to one. ' For School, goals were shot by Miss B. Millichamp (3), Mis* M. Musset (2), while Mies C. Shannon scored for Rakaia. Mr M. Baker was referee., , In tho junior match between High School and Rakaia, at Ashriurton, a very oven go was witnessed, and up ,to within fivo minutes of -full time- no score had been registered. Miss D. Cambridge , scored , for School. Rakaia had a slight advantage in the first half, ami had several unsuccessful shots at goal. Both teams comprised young players who show great promise. Mr A. G. Mcllardy was rofereo. In the junior match Methrcn A v. Allenton, there was no score for either side.
