At the Ilagley Ladies' Club during the past week Mrs F. W. Freeman won in the final of the sealed holes match, and Mrs W. Xicholls and Mrs Watts Ryan were the winners in the final of the four-ball bogey handicap. The only two matches played during the past-week in the captain's trophy at Shirley were as follows:—W. P. Anderson (3) beat W. N. Seay (14), and C. R. J. Ward (3) beat J. D. Marks (12). The fifth round will be played next Saturday, when R, A. Wilson (2) plays K. W. Robinson (16), E. T. Shores (4) plays W. P. Anderson (3), F. G. Brusted (6) plays H. S. Williams (14), C. R. J. Ward (3) plays D. Rrfesc E. S. Douglas, formerly professional at several clubs in New Zealand, an/d New Zealand open champion in 1913, 1914, 1919, and 1921, is now attached to the Robin Hood Club, England. Competing in the qualifying rounds of the Midlands section of tho "Daily Mail" tournament, Douglas had two fine rounds of 76 and 74, and qualified second, one stroke behind the first man, Williamson, whose rounds were -75 and .74.
In the first round of tho play-off.for the Ward Cup, at tho Harewood Club, A. B. Hobbs beat I. ». Wood 2 up, and W. P. Andorsou beat G. P. Steele 6 and 4. The semi-final for this event will be played next week-end. Some good cards were returned in the bogey match played at the Richmond Hill Club on Saturday. The event resulted in a tie for first place between J. F, Whittaker and J. t>. Lawrence, jun., with cards' of 5 up on bogey. On the. play-off Lawrence won with" a card of 9 up. The best cards were: — Handicap.
The first Tuson Cup match of 1925 will be played at Shirley on Saturday, July 18th, "between teams of eight players from tho Wellington Golf Club and the Christchureh Golf Club. There is always a lively interest in the result of this match, and this has been increased during the past year by the playing, on the same day, of a match botweon teams of "veterans," players of 50 vears of age and over, selected from each club. The Tuson Cup is at present held by the Wellington Club and thd Veterans' title is also held by them, they having won iu tho match played at" Heretaunga last October.
One of the most promising golfers in Sydney is Thorn, the Rugby international, whose name appears regularly in club and inter-club matches with good scores against it. His handicap is 2. In. the match for the Concord Cup, a scratch event, last month, Eric Appcrly won with two fine rounds of 71 and 75. Thorn, 77 and 78, and Aronspn, 78 and 77 tied for second place, Aronson winning the play-off. Mr Aronson was hi Christchureh early in the autumn and was an enthusiastic participant in the Easter tournament at Shirley.
A medal handicap was also played during the week-end, resulting in a win for R. 0. Blunt in the. senior division and I.'D. Tavcrner in the junior. The best scores were:—
The weathor was excellent for tho June Medal, which consisted of a bogey handicap, played at Shirley links on Saturday. In the senior division the following four players tied:—R. A. "Wilson, W. P. Andorson, A. R. Blank,.and C., A. Quane, all being 1 up on bogey. In the junior.division a tie resulted between 'three—K. "W. Ballantyne, J. F. Duncan, and P. S. Foster, all of whom were 3 down. The ties in this event will be played off next Saturday, when scorers for the players will be supplied by the secretary. Any of these players interested in the captain's trophy will arrange to play that match later.
At Hagley ou Saturday afternoon a. medal handicap was played. M. A. IT. 'Fell won in the senior division with the good score of 76, less his handicap, "3 net. In the junior division T. . Reese, playing on a 20 handicap, did an 81. giving the low not score of 61. The following were the best scores:— Seniors.
