ELECTRICITY CONTRACT.

TO THE XDITOK Or "THE FBESS " ] Sir, —I am glad to see that it is intended to recognise the successful and. able work done by Mr Flesher as Mayor, and by C'rs. MeKcllar and Agar, together with' Mr Hitehcock, in concluding the electricity contract for the City for the next twelve years. The firstnamed three gentlemen were justly entitled to take credit in this election campaign for the service they have rendered the City, but to their honour they have not mentioned the matter, so it should, be pointed out. The contract is a good one: it gives just rates and charges to the City for its electricity; it affords guarantees, which we hope will keep up the supply; and it preserves, to the City its rights in the development of the Waimakariri granted by the 1922 Act. It has taken several years of skilful and unremitting negotiation with the Government to obtain: and men less able and loyal to their City might have been pardoned for accepting a great deal less than they got. for the City. Surely this deserves some gratitude, especially to the Mayor, who has had to be the head and front of the City'a negotiators, and haa done

immense work, of which we shall all reap the benefit.—Yours, etc, WM. MACHDf. i April 26th, 1925. j
