NEXT SESSION.
LIKELY TO BE SHORT.
{spbciu. TO "THE TMSS.")
WELLINGTON, April 23
In the ordinary course of events it is understood that Parliament will meet about June 25th for the dispatch of business, hut it i s gathered from a letter written by the Hon.' Sir It. Heaton Rhodes, Minister of Defence, that the session will be a 6hort one.
Sir. Heaton wrote as follows to a Wellington correspondent:—''l ani in receipt of your letter of April 18th in which vou enquire whether the Government iutends to introduce legislation to abrogate: (1) the death penalty for military offences during war operations, and (2) No. 1 field punishment. These matters have not received the consideration of Cabinet, and I do not .think it likely owing to the state- of Mr Massey's health and tho probability, in eonsequence of a short session, that therewill be an opportunity to amend the Defence Act, which would be necessary if your suggestions recoivod the support of the Government."
