Mr H. Chapman, District Traffic Manager of Railways, returned from the West Coast last evening.
Among the guests at Warner's Hotel are Messrs H. J. Topliss (Inchbonnie) and K. Cutting (Sydney). Mr C. S. Thomas was last evening re-elected to the position of president of the Canterbury Caledonian Society for tbe eleventh year. Mr H. S. Robinson, for many years in tho service of tho Union Bank, has been admitted into partnership with Messrs Hamilton and Hamilton, sharebrokers, of this city.
The Chrisbchurch Branch of the New Zealand Public Service Association, at a meeting last night, recorded its sincere) sympathy with the Prime Minister in his illness.
Mr L.J. Berry, secretary of the New Zealand Newspaper Proprietors' Association, is visiting Christchurch. 110 will return to Wellington on Monday night. ( Among the guests at tho Clarendon Hotel arc Messrs A. L. Hartley (Oamaru), W. T. Kitchie (Timaru), M. Tenfold (Ashburton), A. F. Myall and A. G. Limn (Auckland), and N. H. Aabford (Hamilton).
Among the guests at the United Service Hotel are Messrs A... Holmes Warren (Sydney),, W. P. Beid (Dunodin), E. E. Fuller (Wellington), J. Buckloy (New York), T. Pinekney (Chicago), P. C. Hazeldino (Invercargill), and M. Battersby (Wellington). The newly-appointed postmaster tor Lyttelton. Mr J. N. Neville, who is replacing Mr Williams, is not a stranger to the port, as he comes from an old Lyttelton family. He served his apprenticeship at the Lyttelton Post Office, .ami was connected with the office for a number of years. Later he ws's" transferred to Christehurch ana thence to Wellington. He is a brother of Mr J. S. Neville, Town Cleric of Christchureh.
