GREY. (SPECIAL TO "THE PBBSS.") ■ GREYMOUTH, April 23. Tlie monthly meej-ing of the Grey County Council was held to-day. Present —Crs. P. Donnellan (chairman), A. Blair, J. Ryall, J. W. Hannan, J. Irvine, IX Baybutt, H. G. Carter, J. Greaney, and A. Robinson. A letter was received from the Public Works Department enclosing authority for the expenditure of .i'sl'o for Big River to Craigieburn and Rough Rivet road Messrs L. O'Neill (Kunanga) and L. Bhmrtell (Seven Mile) were appointed motordrivers from a large number of applicants. Mr W. J. Pickering (Te Kinga) was appointed roadman at Inchbonnie. A letter from Mr V. C. Palmer, Maruia, • asked the Council to apply for a grant of £2OOO to continue the road from Springs Junction. It was agreed to comply with the request. The Minister of Mines wrote advising that he could not agree to the request of the •County Engineer that the cost of maintenance of the Kgahcre combined railway and traffic bridge be lorne by the Mines Department. The CoLtmissioner of Crown Lands, HofctUci, wrote returning the Council's proposal for the expenditure of halves and thiv.is »id rcqTwtin.r; that the amount be exr-ciulivl on roads as specified. The clerk read mi opinion from Mr Joyce, County solicitor, with reference 1o drainage ar'd water sunply for Hiackb.-Jl. It was ascertained that if 60 per cent, of the i;cop!o cf t'v- township signed a requisition for the work, a rale could be struck.
