LOCAL ELECTIONS. (SPECIAL TO "IHB PSE«B.") GKEYMOTTTH, April 23. Mr W. S. Clark has been elected unopposed Mayor of Kunanga. The following councillors have also been returned:—Messrs H. Duggan, S. Baddcley, E. Tasker. E, McTaggart. E. McAlevey, and S. W. Morris. Mr H. Duggan was elected, unopposed, the borough's representative on the Grey Power Board. Mr F. Williams, of Brunner, being the only nominee for the Grev Hospital Board, was elected. Cobden War Memorial. Work has been resumed on the Cobdon war memorial. Concrete filling is in progress, in preparation for the superstructure. Mining Matters. The first statutory meeting of the Brunner Collieries, Ltd., took place at Wallsend yesterday, when there was a good attendance of shareholders. Mr Patterson (Keefton) presided. Out of eleven nominations, Messrs Patterson (Keefton), Seed (Wellington), G. Stitt (Auckland), F. Garth (Christchurch), J. Taylor. (Cobden 1 ), P. Williams (Brunner), J. P. McLean (Greymouth), and J. Bishop (Auckland) wore elected directors. Tin- chairman gave a resume of the progress of the company since the formation of the original syndicate. After (he meeting those present were shown over the works in course of establishment by Mr Bishop, the company's consulting engineer. Babcoek boilers are being placed in position, and Ihe winding and pumping engines installed under the supervision of Mr J. Croll, of Wellington. The contract for the erection of poppet heads has been let, and it is hoped the work of unwatering the mine will be proceeded with shortly.
Personal. Mr Bowley Hatch, who officiated as starter at tire recent race meetings, left fhis morning on his return to Palmerston. North. Mr and Mrs Spender, of England, arrived in Grcymouth this afternoon, and are staying with Airs E.. Eeid (Blaketown ). The Rev. Fathers ■ o 'Hare, Cooney, Joyce, Haivey, and Healey, who are at St. Patrick's Presbytery, Grcymouth, will leave for Canterbury on Saturday. Mrs L. Hickman, who has been staying with her mother, Mrs M. Hannan, left on her return to Christchurch this morning. Mr J. 11. Duv.ies left, this morning en route for Wellington, where he will join the Tainui'for the Old Country. Wedding. The marriage was solemnised this morning of Mr John Baty, son of Mr and Mrs J. Baty, formerly of Coal Creek, to Miss Mavis Kitchingham, second daughter of Mr and Mrs T. G. Kitchingham, of M'arsdon road, Greymouth. The ceremony took place at St. John's Church, the Rev. T. N. Cuttle officiating. The bride was dressed .in white figured marocain. Her sister, Miss Winifred Kitcliingham, was bridesmaid, and Mr J. Graham was best man. After the ceremony a reception was held at Marker's Tea Booms, ami the happy couple left later by the express, en route for tho North Island.
Bowling. In the final of the rinks championship of .the Greylnouth Bowling Club, Whibley (20) beat McKay (18). Land Board's Protest. At the ordinary meeting of the Westland Land Board a resolution was carried protesting against the Warden's recent action in granting applications for land before they were reported on by the Board.
