WATER SUPPLY BOARD.

ANNUAL MEETING. The anual meeting of the Waiuiaka-riri-Ashley W;;ter Supply Board * was held on Monday. Present: Messrs James Brown (chairman"). F. A. Sheat, 11. Leurs, Geurge Wayland, T. Waller, and one other ratepayer, Mr Jas. Cook. The treasurer read the balance-sheet

The chairman delivered his report on the year's work. He considered that the Board was' in a very satisfactory position, having concluded the yeav with a credit balance of £256 8s lid. The special loan of £ISOO for repairs ; to damage done at the hcadworks had been spent. In future any work done at the intake would have to be paid for out of the general maintenance account. So far the work done had proved very satisfactory, but there was much more to do, and this could only be done gradually—a little each year as funds permitted. Tree-planting on the BoarcTs reserve was started during the year. This Should be continued each year, and would prove of great benefit.to the Board in years to come. Eecently a large amount of shingle had been washed into the tuunel. Some inconvenience had been caused to ratepayers, unavoidably, as the water had to'be cut off at the intake to allow of the tunnel being cleared. A syphon had been put in to replace the old wooden flume at Cust on Mr Feather's property; a concrete flume had been erected" in the main race through Mr Rodger's property at West Eyreton. The chairman concluded by appealing to ratepayers to pay more attention to the cleaning of races, as it was impossible to keep a supply of water running to the ond of the district when j certain portions became blocked with weeds and overhanging gorse fences. The chairman moved the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, subject to audit.

The motion was seconded by Mr Sheat nad carried.

Mr Cook, in proposing a vote of thanks to the members of the Board, said that the Board was to be congratulated on the very satisfactory state of the finances. He felt sure that all ratepayers were grateful for the way the Board had carried out its duties.
