FOOTBALL.

RUGBY. REFEREES' ASSOCIATION. The Canterbury Rugby Referees' Association met on Monday evening in tho rooms of the Canterbury A. and P. Aesociation, Mr J. F. Peakc presiding over a good attendance. Two new mcmbcr9 were proposed. The Canterbury Primary Schools Athletic Association was granted affiliation. Mr G. G. Denuiston, the Association's delegate to the Xew Zealand Rug:br Referees' Association Conference, held in Wangamri on Good Friday, submitted his report. Discussion on it was held over till the next meeting, when it is anticipated that tlie official report will have been received from Wellington. Next month Mr S. F. "Wilson, delegate to the conference, held in London 'ast December, will give an address, and it was decided to invite all clubs to send representatives to the meeting.

HURUNUI SUB-UNION. At the .annual meeting of the Hurumu. Sub-Union held at Waiau, the president, Mr G. W. Aldridge, presided, and there were also present: Messrs J. H. McKie and M. Stalker E. Wioskill and T. West (Cheviot), F. Warner and L. Shannon (Kaikoura), S. Maxwell (Cuh-erden), J. Sloss and K. Alexander (Glenmark), and H. Sounderenck and W. Honcybone (Waikari); also Messrs Oldman and Higgins, V.P.'s. The president, in making the annual report,' dated that the number of representative games played last seaeon had entailed n, heavy expenditure, but nevertheless the treasurer was able to show a small balance to credit. A recommendation was made that as the Sub-Union's district, had. been extended southward to the Waipara river, the time, had come when it was advisable to decido on a permanent centre for the Sub-Union, instead of changing it- annually as had been the custom in the past. On the motion of Mr Warner, seconded by Mr West, the report and balance-sheet were adopted. Mr Sloss referred to the difficulties his club would encounter in regard to tho transport of its players; difficulties which would possibly lead to the disbandment of the club, if compelled to play in the Hurunui Sub-Union.

After some discussion it was unanimously agreed 1 that, subject to the approval of the North Canterbury Sub-Union, and the Canterbury Rugby Union. Glenmark should be allowed to play in the North Canterbury •Sub-Union for this season.

An application for affiliation was received fiom. tho Hanmer Club, and Messrs. Seekup and Frederickson, representing that club, waited on the meeting and placed their wishes before tho delegates. If. was unanimously agreed to grant the affiliation. An application was received from a player for permission to play in Christchurch, and it was resolved that the Sub-Union could not permit any player from clubs competing in its to play in other districts.

It was resolved that it be.made a recommendation to the Sub-Unions' Conference that all Sub-Unions l>e granted four delegates to the Canterbury Rugby Union instead of two.

Officers were elected as follows:—Patron, Mr G. W. Forbes, M..f.; president, Mr G. W. Aldridge; vice-presidents, Messrs T. Wilson (Kaikoura), V. G. Oldman (Waiau), W O. Rutherford (Culverden), J. Manson (Hanhier), E. Wihskill (Cheviot), and H. Paundercoek (Waikari); delegates, Messrs J. H. McKis.and M. Stalker (\Va,ia\i), F. Duncan (Culverden). Jv D. Secknp (Hanmer), L. Shannon and F. Warner (Kaikoura), H. Saundercock and W. Honeybone (Waikari). Cheviot to be nominated; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr J. H. McKie; auditor, Mr H. A. Green; permit committee, the president and secretary; selectors, Messrs E. Redmond and H. SanndeTcock; deleRates to C.R.U., Messrs A. J. O'Mallev and J. H. MoKic; hon. surgeon, Dr. E. L. Withers. It was decided that the competitions should commence on May lGth. The following teams were entered:--Senior: Cheviot, Kaikoura, Waiau, Waikari and Culverden. Junior: Cheviot, Kaikoura, Waiau, Waikari, Culverden, and It was reaojved that a challenge he entered for the South'uridge Shield.

The meeting will bo afiked to endorse; an invitation to Great Britain to eend a team, to the Dominion in 1926, and a proposal to send a New Zealand team to South Africa in 1927. Last- season resulted in a > profit of- £3116, solely arising from trial matches for. the All Blacks. . But for them there, would have been a loss. The sum of £BB was lost on Maori tours. The sum of Mi!> was spent on fitting out the All Blacks- over and above the £SOO recoverable from the English Union. ALL BLACKS' MANAGER. MR S. S. DEAN, ENTERTAINED. (press association telegram.) WELLINGTON, April 22. ' Famous Rugby footballera gathered hero tonight on tho occasion of a complimentary social to Mr .S.-S. Dean, manager of the All Blacks. Besides C. G-. Porter and M. Nicholls, of the 1924 team, there were also present Messrs "Toby" Wynyard, of the 1888 team, W. Wallace (1905), Jack Spencer (1907) Mitchison (1913), B. Algar (1902), and ,S. Shearer (1922). Mr A.'Wren, tho .chairman,' in proposing Mr Dean's health, referred to the wonderful record of the All Blacks. Tho question of tho manager was aa important one, but the selection of Mr Dean was a wise one. Ho had been successful in all departments of his position. The success of the tour had been largely due to Mr Dean's tact and a Replying, Mr Dean said that the team had upheld the good' name of New Zealand. Some hotelkeepers with experience of English teams had been a bit uncertain about what tho New Zealanders would do, but thev were all more than satisfied with the conduct of the team which did New Zea"other toasts were honoured, tributes being paid to various members of the team.
