AUCKLAND, April 21,

In the Police Court, James Johnson, a"ed 40, was fined £2OO for currying on the business of bookmaker at the, Avondale racecourse yesterday.

' The police stated that the accused was a man worth £9OOO, but was carrying on bookmaking in a small way. The defence was that accused oniy made bets with friends. It was proved however, that his charts included the names of policemen.
