TRIAL OF SWABODA.

WITNESS TO BE SENT ,TO GERMANY. (special to "ran press.") DUNEDIN, April 21. In connexion with the murder of Private Cromar, an Otago soldier, in Germany after the Armistice, a recent cablegram stated that the trial of Franz Swaboda, who is accused of the murder, was being, delayed pending the receipt of evidence from New Zealand. The evidence referred to was that of Private W. 0. Clark, who was an eyewitness of the occurrence. The Dunediu Beturned Soldiers' Association interested itself in the matter, and as a result of its representations to the Minister of Defence .(Sir B. Heaton Rhodes), the Government decided that if necessary it would be prepared tj send Clark abroad to give evidence at the trial. The secretary of the Dunedin R.S.A. has now received the following telegram from the Minister of Defence: —

A reply has ,711st been received from the Secretary of State for the Colonies stating that Clark's evidence in connexion with the Cromar case is considered very important, arid tho Government's offer to send him to England is gratefully accepted. Will you please so inform Clark, and tell him that he will be further communicated with regarding arrangements for iiis passage, etc., through the Defence Office, Duucdin."

Mr Clark, who is a married man, is employed in a wholesale store in Bond ?treet.
