I On Saturday, Anzac Day, a united religious service and patriotic meeting will be held at the Cenotaph, commencing at 10.30 a.m. There Trill be short addresses by the Mayor and the Rev. T. M. Cuxnow, and other mem- | bers of the clergy will participate. The Lyt- i telton Marine Band will be in attendance, and appropriate hymns will be sung. Relatives and friends of fallen soldiers who may desire to place wreathß upon the Cenotaph j are requested to do so during an interval which will bo provided just before the close | of the proceedings. Returned men are requested to parade at the Drill Hall at 8.45 a.m. School Committee Election. The following have been nominated for the committee of the Lyttelton District High School:—Messrs V. P. Dromgoole, W. 6. Carson, W. J. Crocker, B. I. Demichelh. L. W. Brown, W, D. Gowor, L. G Mathews, Dr. B. H. Gilmour, and. the Rev. A. J. Petrie. As the number nominated does not exceed the number required, those nominated will be declared elected at the householders' meeting to be held on Monday sight. , i Harbour Light Theatre. The ordinary picture programme will give place at tho Harbour Light Theatre to-night to an entertainment of music and pictures by the Kentucky Four. "The Four," Madame Davina Morrison, coloratura soprano. Miss Marjorie Alwyne, contralto, Mr Huntley Spencer, lyric tenor,. and Mr Harry Penn. baritone and monologuist, havo an extensive repertoire, ranging from grand opera to plantation melodies and comedy numbers, and they will provide the first half of the programme. In the second half tho picture version of Harriet Beecher Stowe's famous story, "Uncle Tom's Cabin," will be shown, and "The Kentucky Four" will sing appropriate plantation melodies during tho screening. Tomorrow, "The Gaiety Girl." a Univer-sal-Jewel production, starring Mary Philbin, will bo screened, together with a Century comedy, gazette, and a further episode of "The Purple Riders." Magistrate's Court. As a result of a rather exciting occurrence in the steerage quarters of the ferry steamer Wahino while travelling from Wellington to Lyttelton on Monday night, James Morton> ik seafarer, was charged before Captain ft. Hatchv ivcll, J.P., and Mr P. O. Norton, J.P., yesterday morning, with having wilfully broken a pane of glass valued at ll!a 6d, one door lock valued at Bs, and one pair of handcuffs valued at Bs, tho property of tho Union Steam Ship Company. He pleaded not guilty. CaptainW. D. Cameron, master of tbo Wahino, gave evidence that late on Monday night it was reported to him that a steerage passcngor, who turned out to be Morton, was threatening to stab another passenger if he did not hand ovor his money and possessions to him. Witness ordered him to be locked up in a bathroom. Accused broke one parr of handcuffs and was secured with another -pair. He then smashed the window of the bathroom. Accused stated that he had been under the influence of liquor. . He did not remember more than one pair of handcuffs being put on him. He denied threatening the other passenger. ■' ■ • Scrgoant J. W. McHolm said that the accused bad caused a great' deal of annoyanee on the ship, and had frightened women and children. Morton had ner'.fcl 21 days' imprisonment in Wellington tor deserting Jjis ship, otherwise the police knew nothing about him. . • Accused was convicted and fined £lO, in default two months' imprisonment. A further charge of having travelled in the Wahino from Wellington to Lyttelton without paying his faro was withdrawn, it having iranspircd that Morton had procured a ticket from another man.
