KAKAPO IDLE.. WATERSIDERS REFUSE TO WORK CARGO. (PK?S3 ASSOCIATION TILIORAK.) AUCKLAND, April 23. Trouhlo arose to-day over the discharge of the Union Company's cargo steamer Kakapo, which arrived at an early hour this morning from AValpole Island, with a cargo of bagged guano. Six gangs were, engaged to work the vessel, but whon tho steamer berthed at the Central AVharf, only three gangs wore ready to commence. 'Jho discharge hatches were lifted, and everything was ready for unloading, when tho secretary of the Watorsiders Union ordered the men to cease work. Consequently the hatches v.cro again covered and tho steamer remained idle. Tho Union Company state that the men were offered *s 71d per hour to work the bhip, but that the offer was not accepted. The award wage for the working of guano is 2s 4Jd, 2d in excess of that for the handling of ordinary cargo. A similar situation aroso when tho Kakapo arrived at Auckland some months ago, with the same kind of cargo On that occasion the vessel'was idle for several days before an agreement was reached. No decision had been reached to-night. '

The Wanaka is due to-day from Lyttelton to discharge northern cargo, sailing this evening for Duiicdin. The Canadian Conqueror has been delayed at Lyttelton, and is now expected to arrive to-morrow ,' to discharge American cargo ar.d load for the return voyage. The Union Company expect the Karori from Wea/wrt to-morrow with coal for discharge, after which she will go on to Dunedin.

The Kairanga is due from Australian ports via Dunedin to-morrow, to unload hardwood poles. Wellington will be her next port of call. Tho Kamona will be another arrival tomorrow, from Oamaru. to load for Lyttciton, Wellington, XeUon and Xew Plymouth. The Port Bri*bare ia due from Wangamu on Saturday, for Homeward loading under the agency of D. C. Turnbnll and Co.; ahe will sail ior Lyttelton on -Monday.
