PERSONAL. (widiL to "ths run.") GREYMOUTH, April 21. Mr and Mrs B. W. Shallcrass and the Alisscs J. Hambleton and A. Hannan, who have boon on a motor tour of the Wellington, Hawke's Bay, and Taranaki districts, returned to Greymouth last evening. if> H. St. A. Murray, of Christehurch, is visiting Greymouth. Mr C. A. Carmine? who has been transferred to Auckland in the Public Trust Office, left this morning for the northern city. Prior to his departure he was tendered a farewell by his friends and the members of the United Debating Club. Mr A. A. Adams presided, and presented the guest with a fountain-pen.

Mr Gerald Perotti has been asked by a number of citizens to stand for a seat on the Greymouth Borough Conncil, and has signified his intention of acceding to the request. Mr F. P. Boustridge, Mayor of Brunner, will be opposed by Mr F. Williams at the municipal elections. The Eeefton Firo Brigade tendered a farewell to Mr H. L. Ching, who has acted as secretary, and is leaving the district, and to Mr Shaw, another member. On behalf of the brigade, Captain Coxall presented the former with a rug and the latter with a suitcase.

Mr J. Bishop, consulting engineer of the Bruiiner Collieries, Ltd., leaves on Friday for Auckland, where he will spend a fortnight. Miss Elsie Johnston, of Kilgour road, Greymouth, left this morning to take up an appointment at Karitano Home. Mr J. Bain, formerly manager of Messrs Addison and Co., Hokitika, left this morning for the North Island, where he is to reside in future. He will bo missed in sporting circles in the southern town. Wedding. The wedding was solemnised this morning at St. Patrick's Church of Mr Daniol McCarthy, son of Mr and Mrs J. McCarthy, of Arney Btreet, Greymouth, to Misß Kathleen Veronica | Quinn, daughter of Mr and Mrs E. Quinn, of tho Suburban Hotel. The Rev. Father O'Regan performed the ceremony. The bride wore pink georgette trimmed with pearls and marabout. The Misses M. Quinn and J. Sinnott were tho bridesmaids. Mr J. Wilson was best man and Mr J. Quinn groomsman. After the ceremony a. reception was held at Moore's tea-rooms, and the happy couple left later by tho express en route for the North Island. Funeral. The funeral of the late Mr John. Schofield took place this afternoon at Karoro. In tho cortege wore representatives of tho Waterside Workers' Union, of which deceased was a member. Archdoacon Carr read tho service at the graveside. Motor-Cycle Club. At a meeting of the Greymouth Motor-Cycle Club, the secretary brought down a statement in connexion with the recent sports at ■ Omoto, disclosing that the receipts were £273 16s 9 d, and that there was a credit, balance of £5 5b Bd. A proposal to hold speed trials on Kumara beacli was held over. 'The secretary was instructed to write to the Hokitika, Nelson, and Marlborough Clubs suggesting a suitable circuit of meetings. It was decided to hold a run to Kokatahi on Anzac Day. Otira School. Jt has been decided to hold an official opening day at tho new public school at Otira.« -Electric lights have boen installed in'the building. There was a satisfactory attondanco when the school reopened on Monda'y. Eugby PootbalL A meeting was held, at Reef ton with tho object of resuscitating the Pirates Football Club. There was a fair attendance, and 'the following officers woro elected:—Patron, Mr F. Keating; president, Mr J: B. Discaciati; secretary and treasurer, Mr E. Christiansen; delegates to Inangahua Sub-Union, Messrs Tyler and Christiansen; captain, Mr E. Powleyj. vice-captain, Mr G. Dick. At a meeting of the Westland SubUnion, Messrs H. M. Coulson, A. H. Lawn, and tho Kokatahi Club's delegate were appointed to represent the sub-union on the West Coast Union. It was decided to open competitions in all grades on May 2nd. Eailway Matters. ■ It is reported that the Railway-De-partment has purchased a portion of the l well-known Tivoli Estate at Elmer Lane, the price being £I2OO. The deal will probably bo in connexion with the projected works at the suburban station. In Bankruptcy. James Martin, blacksmith, of: Nelson Creek, has filed his petition in bankruptcy. School Committees. There will be no election .for a School Committee at Greymouth, as the nominations do not exceed the number of members required. Messrs P. Barrowman and P. Beck will fill the vacancies caused by the retirement of Messrs W. F. G. Pu'llin and A. J. Aitken. At Hokitika all of the retiring members were re-elected with the exception of Mr T. W. Duft who was replaced by Mr W. H. Bishop. Magistrate's Court. Reserved judgment was delivered this morning by Mr 11. P. Lawry, S.M., in the case in which Colin Campbell, licensee of the Recreation Hotel, was charged with keeping open for sale and selling liquor during prohibited hours. Both charges were dismissed, but one of the men who was deemed to be illegally on the premises was fined £2 and costs, and another, a first offender, 10s and costs.. Druids' Lodge. A number of officers and members of the Westland Lodge were present at the annual meeting of the Star of the West Lodge of Druids held at Greymouth. Bro. Saunders was installed district president, Bro. J. Fox, of Hokitika, carrying out the ceremony. The secretary * stated , that the Lodge had now a financial membership of 400. At the conclusion of the annual meeting a smoke concert was held, and a lengthy toast-list was honoured. Westland County. The Westland County Council is putting in hand the rebuilding of the Blue Spur bridge and repairs to Malfroy's bridge, Arahura Valley. Deer-Stalking. The party of English sportsmen who have been deer-stalking in South Westland have met with a considerable measure of success. Lord Belper, one of the members of the party, secured a 16-pointer in the upper Haast country. B.S.A. The annual meeting of the Greymouth branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association was held to-night, Mr A. H. McKane presiding. The balance-sheet disclosed that there was a credit of £6 2s 2d. Mr McKane said that good work had been done in the past year, but there
