MR JAMES BEAVEN.

There passed away on Thursday evening, April 9th, an early settler of Springston in the person of Mr James Beaven, at the age of 74 ycara. Mr Beaven came to New Zealand over 40 years ago, and settled in Springston, and had been a resident there almost continuously ever since. For several years he had farmed very successfully at Springston South. Tour or five years SigO) owing to failing health, he sold his farm and took up his residence in Springston. Nearly three years ago he had a stroke, and he had been conlined to his bed since theiu Af.r Beaven was a very staunch Methodist, and for years engaged in local preaching for the church, and while he had his health ho rarely failed to be in his seat at church. He is survived by his widow, two daughters, and one son, and one daughter predeceased him some seventeen years ago. On Easter Sunday the funeral took place, and was followed by many old friends. The service was conducted at the residence and at the cemetery by the Rev. J. W. Parker. On Sunday evening, in the Methodist Church a memorial service to the late Mr J. Beaven was conducted by the Rev. C. Abernethy, who based his address from Revelations, chapter vii., verses 13-16. At the close, the "Dead March" was played by the organist, Miss Agnes Kime.

Mr David Nimmo formerly to thfi Oamaru Borough Council, died in the Oainaru Hospital on Sunday. Some weeks ago Mr Nimmo suffered an injuiv to a loot and septic poisoning supervened. Last week his leg was amputated, but this did not arrest tho progress of the sepsis, and his condition gradually became worse. The late Mr Nimmo. who was in his seventyfifth vear, had been in the service of the Oamara Borough Council for many years, r.jid only retired, last year. He "was highlv respected both as a citizen and an official.
