(3T CABLE—PEES 8 ASSOCIATION* —COPTBIGHT) (AUSTRALIA!; AKD X.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) LONDON, November 21. Tho London Corporation Markets Committee, for the guidance of the public, has issued the first list of proper retail meat prices, in whicli it is stated allowance has been made for reasonable profit. The respective prices per pound for home-grown and imported meat are: Kumpsteak .. 2s Sd and Is 8d Sirloin .. ' .. Is lOd and Is Id Mutton, logs and loins ... Is 6d and Is 2d Lamb, legs and loins .. Is lOd and Is 6d The "Daily Herald," discussing the suggested schemo for tho control of meat supplies, says that without communal purchase and with fixed prices, the scheme will do nothing to restrict the operations of the meat trusts which at present dominate the markots. Tho explanation of the riso in prices is that there is a roal shortage of mutton this year. Tho deficiency is nearly two million carcases. A loading London , retail butcher, combating assertions of profiteering, points out that New Zealand lamb in pre-war time was ojd a lb wholesale. Legs were sold retail at BAd and neck and breast The wholesale cost now is 13d retail, lSd for legs, but lower for cuts. The remainder of tho prices aro on a pre-war scale. Butchers have found colonial lamb a losing proposition, he says.
