LYTTELTON REGATTA, 1924.
TO' THE EDITO3 O? "THE PItESS." Sir, —Is it not possible to reinstate this old-established, acquatic carnival, commencing• again this year? It only requires a body of energetic enthusiasts to make it the old great success it-always was in years gone by. The old committee in Lvtt-elton have evidently become fossilised, and they are now leaving it to. the Lyttelton Bowing Club to run an inter-club function. The schooner, yachting, and rowing races were always a great attraction, also 6no of .his Majesty's shins attending and competing in the events, not forgetting the gVeat spectacular .fireworks display at" night. Tho public attended • up to 30,000, and surely this should bo worth while to caber, for, it -being the largest aquatic carnival in the Dominion, and it is a great pity to let it become defunct.
'Railway and all businesses greatly benefit financially by this regatta, and with enthusiasm "should become an assured success.- • Why should not some of the. prominent business men of tho Port, get busy and support wholeheartcdlv this young Lyttelton Bowing Club, and by so doing benefit.rowing, swimming, and' other sports-also.—Yours, etc.,
