AKAROA REGATTA CLUB. A meeting of the Akaroa Regatta Club's executive was held on Tuesday evening, tho commodore, Mr Geo. Armstrong, presiding. The main business was Ito consider the advisability of revising- the programme, ; as a letter had been received from, tho local boating club etrongly urging, that the pair-oar races, cut out from last year's programme at a previous meeting, be reinstated. In support of the letter, a deputation from tho club, Messro B. Hammond and F. Tebay, waited on the meeting to discuss tho question. ' At the chairman's invitation, the deputation explained the club' 3 grounds for protesting, pointing out, among other things, that the smaller rowing clubs would be largely debarred from competing in tho Akaroa Regatta, we're 'there no pair-oar evont3 on the programme. A long discussion. followed, during which members of the executive made it clear that tho regatta club's main object was to promote tho best interests of amateur rowing, and. cater particularly for the younger oarsmen.
It was resolved, on the motion of Mr C. "W. Leete, seconded by. Mr P. G.. Riches, to include the pair-oar events for maidens, youths, juniors, and seniors. The programme to be submitted to the Canterbury Bowing Association for approval- will be, tierefore, the earn© as last year's, viz., comprising twelve rowing events and one sailing race. ' Arrangements .were made for canvassing the" district, particularly on-Peninsula Show Day, and the next Duvauchello sale day, with a view of obtaining as many members as possible.
