ELMWOOD SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The committee of tho Elmwood Seliool met on Monday evening, Mr "W. Jones (chairman presiding. Correspondence was received from the Education Board relative to th:> Committee's request for np-to-dato equipment in the infants' department. The chairman said that the inspector's report had emphasised tho importance of this and the Board had promised that tho request would be granted in due course. The headmaster's report was read, and indicated an incrcaSß in tho roil number of 6-12 pupils (boys 324, girls 318), with an average attendance of 593, the highest attendance being- Gl3. Miss Fester has resumed duties aiter aa absence oE six weeks through illness. The school lightweight football team had been successful in winning its division, and several friend* of tho school had manifested their interest in a practical manner. It was docided to acknowledge the gift of a silver cup fromMr "KV. Benson, who, in a covering letter complimented the team end coach (Mr North) on the behaviour of the boys on and off tho field. Mr Percy Smith had presented seventeen silver meda's to .members of- tho team. Tho players were the guests of Mr W. E. Cook at the Beresfordl and also spent an evening at the Opera House by invitation of Mr Kyle. Mr Claude Kin? prosented an enlarged _ photograph. a handsome framo being; given by Mr Thos. Newburgh. The chairman expressed the opinion thai great interest had been shown over this event by parents and fiiends of the pupils. Several matters in c-onnexion with the forthcoming school sports and fete in E'lmivood Park were discussed.
