VETERANS' ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL REUNION. The "twentieth annual reunion dinner of the South African Veterans' Association was held in the Dorothy tea-rooms on Saturday night. There was a very large attendance, including a number of the aged veterans of other wars, and the president, Mr H. Macintosh, occupied the chair. Apologies were received from his Excellency the Gov-ernor-General, the Prime Minister and the Hon. Sir R. Heaton Rhodes, Minister of Defence. After an excellent dinner, a lengthy toast list was honoured, interspersed with songs and' stories. The toast of "The Old Brigade" was proposed by Colonel R. Young, 0.0. Southern Command. He contrasted the conditions of the Great War with those of the South African war and congratulated the members upon the manner in which they attended their annual reunion. He hoped that the veterans of the Great War would be. seen in euch numbers at their reunions 20 years henoe. Other toasts honoured were "The City Fathers," proposed by Mr D. Lee, responded to bv Mr W. W. Scarff; "South African Veterans," proposed by Colonel F. B. Creswell, responded to by Mr C. E. Gwatkin and representatives of the various contingents; "Returned Soldiers," Chaplain-Cblonel G. W. Christian, responded to by Major Stafford and Mr W. E. Leadley; "Absent Comrades," proposed by the Rev. A. H. Norris; "The Press," proposed by Mr W. F. Grenfell. An enjoyable programme of 6ongs, stories and instrumental items was given by Messrs H. Edwards, A. Bey, Clements, Skinner, Burrows, Cooper and Goodhart.
